All Terratrips not equipped with a GPS sensor require a sounder (wheel probe) to operate. You can also combine them both so that you always have a backup if one fails.

There are different versions:

- Wheel sensor, is a magnetic pickup that ''watches'' for wheel bolts/disc mounts or anything else rotating.

- Universal odometer cable transmitter, is mounted in the existing odometer cable, suitable for all cars with a mechanical odometer.

- For cars with an electronic gearbox signal, a special dual sensor is available: Terratrip signal converter.

High temperature version

Terratrip wheel probes. Most popular on idler wheel hubs, these are still the most popular of all probes and now you have a choice of two types from Terratrip. The probe is mounted on the back of the hub and actually 'looks' at the bolt heads that hold the brake disc to the hub. With the sensor probe mounted with the required opening switch set, 4 steel bolt heads will pass the probe on each revolution and the magnetic effect between the probe and the bolt head is increased by the tripmenter and 'counted', allowing the tripmeter to calculate the distance in a certain time period. The two maximum distances of the two models are 2 mm and 4 mm.
